chimera – PRP mixtape 11 – February 2024

Since the Lunar New Year is tomorrow, I wanted to get this mixtape out first, as it represents the songs of my past couple months, and I will want to start a new one in the new lunar year. As always, this isn’t necessarily new music, although some of it may be. It’s just what I’ve been listening to recently. Let me know what you think. Subscribe to my page for more mixtapes, along with running and marathon stuff, cave diving, writing, quotes, and just bits of my personal journal. I can’t really have a proper blog because the stuff I share is all so unrelated to each other, so I just publish a window into my life, for anyone who wants to be a part of it. Welcome to my world. Stay a while.

A reminder that Spotify introduced a new feature in 2023 that allows listeners to exclude a playlist from their taste profile. It’s a great option for when you are listening to someone else’s stuff from their profile, or you have guests visiting, and you aren’t sure you want Spotify crafting playlists for you based upon their taste. If you want to explore my playlists and not have it affect your listening profile and song suggestions on Spotify, here’s how to use the handy “exclude from my taste profile” feature.

freestyle summer – PRP mixtape 7 – Summer 2023

speed skate

I finally thought of the last song for this mixtape, to make it reach 23 songs, a couple of days ago. I put it as the first song because I was so happy when I remembered this one. I didn’t get a mixtape out in July, so there are two for August because this group of songs belongs in the Summertime. This vibe takes me back to the Summers of early middle school, when I’d get dropped off at the skating rink and stay there all day with my speed skates and my Jordache jeans and money for a couple of popsicles, some nachos, and a video game or two. While I did also enjoy classic rock back then as well, and things like ACDC and Rush were sure to bring me rushing to the rink in my black and white striped speed skates, for some reason Latin Freestyle reminds me more of the era. Enjoy!

(…and yes, I know we call them playlists these days, not mixtapes, but I am from the cassette tape era, so that is why I call them)

fu shoes and black clothes – prp mixtape 1

I made a nostalgic (for me) mix tape to sync to my Garmin, from the mall rat and early club kid days, so ages 14 – 20 (I started clubbing at 15, because I knew people to get in the door at first and then later was able to get somebody’s ID to use for entry). I tried to keep the playlist from getting into current stuff and tried to keep it on the somewhat lighter side. #music 🖤

Here is my school pic from 9th grade. Sorry about the poor quality. But, this is the era. I wish I still had that Cure shirt. It was from the Disintegration tour, which was such an amazing experience for me.

I embedded it above, but here is the link to it as well: fu shoes and black clothes – PRP mixtape 1 – May 2022 on my profile on Spotify.

It was hard to not put more on there. This was a great time of life for me. It was also hard to not include some other stuff from that era, and the more I think about it the more I want to add to it. So much is still unrepresented, but it is already at 100 songs and that is a nice number to stop at, for now. I can’t stop thinking of stuff that I could potentially put on there from that era but I have to be more granular. I know I’ve already crossed some genre lines as it is.

I miss those days, when I had a solid group of friends and we hung out together all the time, often really just doing nothing but sitting around listening to music. Nobody has time for that anymore. I know I don’t. Not to mention that schedules never seem to coincide anyway nowadays and most of the people that I have music in common with now, I have nothing else in common with anymore.

Oh well. Memories.

Avis’ new side project

My friend Avis has a new side project and it is freaking awesome (Trip Hop). It is available on iTunes. Saltillo on MySpace Saltillo web presence and, in case you didn’t know about the other one, here it is: Sunday Munich on MySpace Sunday Munich web presence It’s too bad Allegory didn’t continue on as well – that was something completely different, but I liked it a lot. I keep hoping he will change his mind and release the other songs.
