Since the Lunar New Year is tomorrow, I wanted to get this mixtape out first, as it represents the songs of my past couple months, and I will want to start a new one in the new lunar year. As always, this isn’t necessarily new music, although some of it may be. It’s just what I’ve been listening to recently. Let me know what you think. I made a playlist from the archives for today’s workout, from out of “nowhere.” There was nowhere and then there was now here. But all of it represents me in some way or another, and I own every bit of it and am thankful for it all because it is all part of how I got to be who I am. Plus, this music is fun for me sometimes and I get energy from it when I’m in the specific mood to receive that energy.

Here is the soundtrack of the last couple months of my life. I’ve already listened to this one a bunch of times, enough times that when I hear one song now, I expect the next one, so I’m calling it done. The last 2 songs changed a few times, but I’ve settled upon a decision. The last month or so has been a ride. Some things have really come around, seemingly from nowhere, so I’m calling this one full circle. It fits, as do the songs, to the journal of my experience and mood the past couple months. I think the first day of Autumn is the perfect day for me to finish this month’s mixtape, so I made some last minute changes and decisions and am calling it done. It’s a bit all over the map, in terms of genre, from rock to electro to goth (with a variety of subgenres), but all are, I think, within my normal range of darker sounds. (Don’t worry, no more of that Summer silliness, not for a while at least.) As always, most of it isn’t new music but some of it is. freestyle summer – PRP mixtape 7 – Summer 2023

I finally thought of the last song for this mixtape, to make it reach 23 songs, a couple of days ago. I put it as the first song because I was so happy when I remembered this one. I didn’t get a mixtape out in July, so there are two for August because this group of songs belongs in the Summertime. This vibe takes me back to the Summers of early middle school, when I’d get dropped off at the skating rink and stay there all day with my speed skates and my Jordache jeans and money for a couple of popsicles, some nachos, and a video game or two. While I did also enjoy classic rock back then as well, and things like ACDC and Rush were sure to bring me rushing to the rink in my black and white striped speed skates, for some reason Latin Freestyle reminds me more of the era. Enjoy!
